NAATI COURSES

The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI) is the professional body responsible which sets the standards for the translating and interpreting profession in Australia and keeps track of it.

What are the NAATI Endorsed Courses?

The NAATI accredited VET and other institutions providing higher education (which are a third party body) can provide the diploma level or higher translation and interpreting qualifications.

NAATI Endorsed Qualification benefits?

If a student completed the qualification, he/she could directly apply to NAATI for taking up the certification test without having to fulfil the preconditions.

How does it help in Migration?

To claim the CCL points for your point-based migration visa you need to complete an accreditation as a translator or interpreter at a subordinate level or higher.

What is a NAATI CCL Test?

NAATI introduced a new CCL Test in January 2018. It aims to provide five extra points to international students who have applied for point-based general skilled migration visas to migrate to Australia.

Not everyone can apply for NAATI CCL Test and its accreditation.

The visas that permit to stay in Australia for a minimum of 6 months can apply for the NAATI Accreditation and the applicants of:

• Student visa (subclass 500)
• Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485),
• Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) can apply for NAATI Accreditation.

The applicants of 189 visa, 190 visa and 489 visa can also apply for the NAATI CCL Test.

Entry Requirements for NAATI Accreditation

• You should be 18 years or above
• You must take an entrance examination by NAATI recognised institutions OR provide documents copies of visa, IELTS/PTE Score, Australian qualifications and health insurance.

Courses that are NAATI Approved and are available by VET and other higher education institutes:

• Diploma of Interpreting
• Advanced Diploma of Translating

These courses are available in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

How can you get a NAATI Accreditation?

• Apply for a NAATI Accreditation test
• From an educational institution overseas obtain a tertiary qualification in translation and/or interpreting.
• Should have memberships of advanced standing or international professionals.
• Finish a NAATI approved course in translation and/or interpreting at an Australian institution

How does a NAATI approved course provides NAATI Accreditation?

On successful completion of any NAATI approved course from NAATI accredited institution, you might directly get recommended by the institution for NAATI accreditation.

To be recommended, you must:

Get the grades to require recommendation in the final practical translation or interpreting examination after getting graduated in an approved language stream.

The approved institutions directly make the recommendations to NAATI. On recommendation, you need to submit an application (The 'Application for Accreditation by Australian Approved Course' (Form B)). You can get it from the NAATI Website.

On submitting your application, you will get your unique NAATI number within seven days. And your application gets assessed within 6 weeks.

You have to submit an application to NAATI for accreditation within three years of completion upon your accreditation recommendation by the institutions.

Also, the applicant should provide proof of enough adequate regular and constant work in the field of translating and/or interpreting. The applicant can provide reference letters from companies or organizations, a valid explanation of the position that shows the participation of candidate in the translating and/or interpreting work.
